My family and I have been dining here for years. A family run business with the same familiar faces every time we go. The service is always caring and friendly. But the food is what keeps us coming back for more. New Peking specializes in authentic Mandarin and Szechuan tastes. Countless options from your standard chow mein to Imperial fish. Jasmine tea is aromatic and served in your own teapot with authentic Asian tea style cups. Their Crab meat Rangoon is amazing. It is a crispy wonton filled with cream cheese and crab meat. My usual main dish of choice is the Hunan Shrimp. Shrimp with assorted vegetables in a Hunan spicy brown sauce. Another top contender is their Garlic Chicken. Boneless chicken chunks and green peppers, onion, diced bamboo shoot, mushrooms in a house brown sauce. The Mongolian Beef is also a fave. Sliced tender beef sauteed with green onion and onion in a hot spicy brown sauce, on a bed of shredded rice noodles. Each dish is more than enough for two-three people. We usually like to order a couple different options to savor the tastes. While takeout is typically the way to go with Chinese food, staying for a sit down is its own little treat. With the high-backed booths, mahogany-stained wood, comfortable lighting and attention to detail, you'll almost forget about your fellow diners. Enjoy!

Great, Hot & Sour Soup! Great Sizzling rice soup! Great Crab Won Ton's! Several very good dishes!! Yen King Chicken, is breaded white chicken with a lightly spiced sauce and hot pepper's! BECARE, the pepper's are very hot!! They have spring rolls (not my favorite!) but, everyone else seems to love them. Great, moo sho pork, and many other good dishes! Good, almond chicken with a brown sauce! (I love the yellow sauce! So, not my favorite dish). Interior is very clean, and staff is very friendly! You will enjoy your time there!

So this place has 2 menus. The American menu, I do not like, because the food is just too sweet and greasy. They have another menu for asians, but it's not online. If you're planning to eat there, you can ask for the menu there. I think asian menu has way better taste. They have different dish like the seafood pot, and pan-fried noodles. Still somewhat greasy, but flavorful and not over-sweeten. Fast service and it's close to my work.

I can't believe there isn't already a review on this! This is an awesome Chinese restaurant. They have a huge selection of food, all of which are quite amazing. Some of their dishes are more authentic, with others catering to the 'Americanized' Chinese crowd. Also, the waiters and waitresses here have been incredibly nice every single time I've eaten here. If you like kimchi, make sure to ask for it! It comes free with the meal.

Extremely excellent Chinese restaurant. I'm quite picky when it comes to these sorts of things but I've always been a very pleased when I've dined here. In short, the food is excellent, the service is just fine and the environment is fitting. Eat here and be happy. Go for the pot stickers to start; the hot sauce they bring with it is worth it alone. All of their soups are wonderful but the Hot and Sour is particularly good. It's flavor is a bit more intricate than most places. As for the rest of the menu I've yet to get something that wasn't excellent and I've been coming here for years. One of my favorites is the Szechuan garlic combo. Their sesame chicken is also fantastic; not overly sweet or gloopy like at other places. The restaurant itself is nice enough. It's nothing fancy but I wouldn't want it to be. This place is for getting a bunch of friends together, getting a bunch of food and digging in. Anything else would only distract. Update: I've been back to this place many times since first writing this review, and I'm happy to report that it's still fantastic. There are certainly more traditional and nicer Chinese places in Ann Arbor and Metro Detroit, but something about this place always just makes me feel comfortable and ready for a tasty meal.

What a great chinese restaurant! They have americanized-chinese (sesame chicken, almond chicken, sweet and sour pork etc.) but they also have authentic chinese dishes as well. I usually get the popular Chinese-korean noodle dish Jja Jang Myun when I go there and it's very good. Everything I ever had there is very tasty and the service is great too. Ask to put some spice into the food so you get some good kick to the flavor. Try this place for great chinese food!

One of the best Chinese places in the area. Their dumplings are Hugh and amazing!

My favorite Chinese restaurant in the area - I drive 15+ miles to get to it. I recommend it to friends and friends introduced me to it. Soups are good. My favorite is the hot and sour. The food is fresh and the service is good. The Almond Boneless chicken does not disappoint. The chicken subgum is very good - a good amount of chicken with the vegetables. The place is nicely decorated and is kept clean. The portions for dinner are large - We always take some home. It is reasonably priced-- making it worth the drive.

My family has been going to New Peking for years. Just went back after not going for a long time and was pleasantly surprised the food was just as good as I remembered! The dry garlic shrimp is AWESOME- that is a must try! Their crab rangoons and sizzling rice soup is great as well. Try the Peking dinners or family dinners if you're dining with others- worth the $ plus you can substitute. This restaurant blows all other Chinese restaurants in the area away.

Decided to try based on yelp reviews. The food was horrible,i could not eat my almond chicken and ended up throwing it away, even the rice was not palatable.

In the ten plus years I have gotten carry out here, I have never had a meal that I felt I was disappointed. Always tastes very very fresh and cooked just right. Best consistancy for Chinese food around. They also offer a large dining room for eating in, but I get mine to go since my sister lives close by. I order the sweet & sour chicken and chicken chow mein. Portions for take out are generous. Love New Peking, just wish I didn't move away so I could eat there more often.

Woo hoo! Yeah, I know it sounds overdramatic, but when you have been searching for good Chinese food in Michigan for as long as my wife and I have this really is a woo hoo moment. The family and I were in Garden City on an unrelated errand, have been hungry for Chinese food, and just this morning I had read reviews of this restaurant so we figures, why not? We left confident we will return many times, even considering the 35-40 minute drive. First the food--We decided to try a variety of dishes to so we could get an overall sense of the place. We ordered the Chicken Lo Mein (not greasy at all and the noodles were very flavorful), Egg Rolls (a bit overcooked but wonderful tasting), Potstickers (even my wife liked them--the first time this has ever occurred), Sesame Chicken (very good flavor and the sesame even came through), and General Tsos. The only item less than fantastic was the General Tsos which our hostess commented she would not have suggested had we asked (lesson learned) because it was too similar to the Sesame but not as flavorful. My wife also loved the Jasmine tea. At many Chinese restaurants I find the 'meat' to be questionable at best but here it was much better quality than most. Despite being fried it was also not sopping or crusted in grease. We commented that the chef knows how to cook the meal to the point of perfect crispiness without being overdone. Our only 'complaints', and they are minor, were that the General Tso's chicken was a bit bland and that while the flavor level was high, the spice level was low. That issue is easily corrected with a request when ordering, however so not a problem. The decor was nice but not ridiculously overdone as it is at some Chinese places. The portions were enormous such that we took home at least as much as we ate. The service was good and made an effort to connect with us on a personal level even to the point of making reccomendations for next time. Very, very nice.

I had heard really good things about this restaurant, and I was really excited to try it. Unfortunately, my experience was not as good as the ones of others, I suppose. The food was sub par, and the spicy dish I ordered wasn't spicy at all. I had to practically drown it in hot chili oil to get it to medium spice. Other than that the food was fairly good. The service, on the other hand, was godawful. The server treated myself and my partner like we were complete idiots, and didn't offer us tea or ask us if we would like soup/an appetizer. I don't know if it is because we are young (24), but I was very offended by the service. I hope that it was just a one time experience, but I don't think I'll be back anytime soon.. Wish it was delicious, Me

My fav jajang place in MI. I go every single time i go or come from the airport. I love the potstickers and jajang. the gombugi is not bad, i should get tangsooyuk instead since it goes with the jajang. Haven't had the other dishes except happy family (we get all the time too).

BEST CHINESE FOOD I HAVE EVER HAD. This place is the benchmark for all other Chinese. Enough said! **Almond Chicken is different - but the best. It is quality chicken with special spices, breaded, on a bed of lettuce.

This restaurant was highly recommended to me by my clients, and it lived up to its recommendation. It's one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area. I especially like the seafood and vegetables dish. Enjoy.

Everytime I fly back to Detroit to see my family, the first thing I do is drive to New Peking for the Yen King chicken, extra spicy. I wish I could duplicate this at home. Soooo good and great service from some wonderful people.

My girlfriend and I dine here all the time and we love it! Their food is consistently good, it's not hit or miss like a lot of other Chinese restaurants. Their service is great, and their dishes come out quickly and are hot and fresh. The have a wide variety of food to choose from, so weather you like shrimp, chicken, beef, duck or prefer just veggies they have something for you. They're egg drop soup is very good and has a good texture to it, (doesn't t have yolky (just made that word up) taste to it. Their Hunan and Sweet and Sour Shrimp are what we usually order and come in big portions. You can have it for lunch the next day and it's still pretty good.

My family and I have been going here for years. Try the pea pod leaves; very simple dish, but oh so good! It's not on the menu, but they always have it. We get it every time!

  • Melissa H.

Pretty good although if you're a woman and you really like spicy, this may not be for you. We used to be regulars but not so much anymore. Seems you have to be a man to get something hot. Seriously. No matter how much I stress the **extra*** in extra spicy, they simply won't do anything over mild for me. To get anything with a kick, I have to have my husband order it. And this wasn't just once or twice. It is proven. Ridiculous. Other than that, the food is pretty fresh and flavorful. The owners are nice but the service can sometimes be questionable.

Wow!! Where do I start...I have been dining at New Peking for as long as I can remember...BEST CHINESE FOOD hands down! The ingredients are always fresh and of excellent quality! My favorite dish is sesame chicken (white chicken with the perfect amount of breading cooked to perfection! I also LOVE Ja Ja myun (black bean noodle dish from their traditional chinese menu...incredibly delicious!). I currently live in Chicago and have not been able to find any place that even comes CLOSE to New Peking!!

We had to try it because of the good reviews and it always looks crowded. Service was outstanding and the food was very good, presentation was way above par though - the sizzling rice soup was funny and pretty decent. I sampled some sweet and sour shrimp - I don't go for sweet and sour, but it was way better than average as it wasn't too sweet. I'd go back for the staff and to try some more interesting dishes. Actually, we will go back for that.

I haven't been here in years and it makes me wonder if I have gotten used to the places closer to home. I was invited this evening to join some friends for Chinese New Year. What a great time. For $40 (which includes the tip) we had a family style meal with soup, 4 appetizers, 9 entrees and the dessert. I loved the crab meat chicken soup, very tasty. All the entrees were very good and served hot from the kitchen. The owner's son and friend did the Lion Dance and door prizes were awarded. What a great time.

I'm used to Houston china-town standard Chinese food so I didn't put the bar up too high for this restaurant considering my experience with the typical Chinese restaurant here. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. It was probably the 2nd most authentic Chinese place I've tried here in Michigan and service was great as well. Pros: authentic food, great service, hot tea, traditional Chinese decor Cons: if only there was one closer to where I live!

So far, I think that New Peking is one of the better Chinese restaurants in the area. Haven't been disappointed with their food yet. I like Trizest up north a little better, but New Peking has a nice menu and the food was good.

The best Chinese food in the area. Run by an excellent owner and his wife, you will not be disappointed! We drive 30 minutes just to eat here and have never received bad service.

This was one of the highlights on first my trip to Detroit. I love the atmosphere and the professionalism of the staff not to mention the great dishes; I stole some beef from someone else's plate was instance order envy. I was lucky enough to grab some leftovers that I prized until their inevitable demise :). New Peking is at the top of my To-Do list on my next trip to Detroit.

Great food outstanding service. What more could you want! Egg rolls just right. Wanton soup very good with generously sized wantons & just the right texture. Happy Family dish was tasty. Veggies perfectly cooked and they didn't skimp on the shrimp like some places do. I'd love to go back but I'm only passing through town. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a real Chinese restaurant.

I miss eating here so much. It had to be a stop on my recent trip to Michigan. I have yet to find another Chinese that makes red pepper shrimp like they do at New Peking. It had been remodeled since my last visit 4 years ago. But the owners and food were the same? I was so glad to see that had not changed.

Trying to be brief and concise. Average to moderately good food here, nice interior, very poor service and staff. To start off with, there was something floating in my drink... requested a fresh cup finally after waiting for about 15 minutes and he brought a pitcher but no cup to pour my water in.... okay. Kind of a rude/stressed out waiter who worked our section. He was really short with us and, when I asked if he could up charge/substitute a soup for fried rice, he simply said in a pretty rude manner "no". I mean, we're kind of starting off on a really bad leg here with the mentioned icewater indecent. Anyhow, the crab ran-goons and seafood soup I ordered were both very tasty. The food my roommate (chicken platter of some sort, sesame I believe) ordered was very tasty. The food here is pretty good. Some items were average looking but overall, we enjoyed our supper. We thought hot tea was included and had to ask for it after he took our teacups away since we both love hot tea with Chinese. Again, the shortness on our waiter's part was obvious and not appreciated at all. I will not be visiting this place again. I can find a cheaper restaurant with just as good food and better prices (Bamboo Garden down the street next to Kroger!!) and much better staff. This establishment seriously needs to consider its staff as this evening our water provided a very disappointing customer experience. Interior: 7/10 average, clean. Experience: 1/10 nasty cup of water. Customer Service: 3/10, he spoke to us at least. Taste: 7/10. Price: 5/10 somewhat expensive.

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day! Today in tribute to the doctor we ventured off to have one of our favorite dishes Dry Garlic Shrimp. If you haven't tried this dish be sure to stop and check it out. New Peking has been serving authentic Asian cuisine for over 30 years. Some of their wait staff have been working there for over 15 years. Service is perfect. This place has been a staple in Garden City for such a long time. Service is always impeccable and the atmosphere is authentic. We highly recommend eating here and enjoying all of the fantastic flavors that they offer. Dishes that we love would be the kung pao chicken, dry garlic shrimp, hot and sour soup. Follow Food Porn Detroit on Instagram!

we went for Chinese New Year - what a fun night. Packed and the food was pretty good considering the 300+ people in the room.. The Lion Dancing was good; and rest of the entertainment was ok . will try it on a non holiday night and see,

Stopped in at New Peking after the first restaurant we went to had a 75 minute wait. I'm glad we went here. There was immediate seating and we went for the traditional Chinese menu. We did get some fried dumplings off the regular menu to start and they came out really fast! Nice and hot and with what they called their hot sauce which was less hot than one might think and was tasty, more black peppery than hot pepper hot. I got the beef two flavors, which was spicy with orange. The beef was crispy and some pieces were more tender than others but quite flavorful. My friend got the mabo tofu. It was spicy and good! A nice, hot quick meal that was satisfying!

Whomp. Whomp. After a long cross country business trip, my husband suggested we get takeout after he picked me up from DTW. Since we were starving and didn't feel like going 10 minutes out of our way for something we knew would be spectacular *cough* *cough* Best China *cough* *cough* we decided to try something new. We placed our order: Me- General Tso's Chicken Him- Sweet and Sour chicken Two egg rolls. We picked up our hot food and headed home. Everything looked great until we opened the containers to find our dinners SWIMMING in sauce. The once crispy chicken is now drowned and soggy. Poor lil' buggers. My General Tsos was more gingery than sweet/spicy. My husbands sweet and sour was very, very, very bland as if they squirted ketchup over the entire meal and called it sweet and sour. Although Ketchup tastes like something... this had absolutely no flavor at all. The egg rolls were probably the best of the meal, which isn't saying much. Do not plan on returning anytime soon...

Such a great restaurant! All the servers/workers are friendly and excellent. You will never be waiting a long time for food/beverages. Last but not least the food is fabulous! Order the general tso's, Mongolian beef, crab Rangoon, or double wonder and you will not be disappointed!

If you don't rate this place at least 4 stars, then you're not a big fan of Chinese food to begin with, because this is simply THE BEST around. Period. I've been eating here since the early 80s, and I've never once had even a mediocre meal. A little pricier than other Chinese restaurants, and the food seems to take a slight bit longer to arrive sometimes, depending on what you order, but it's always worth it for me. We all know someone who, regardless of what restaurant they eat at, is never happy. Nothing is ever good enough for them. Those are the people leaving bad reviews here. They think Chinese food is chop suey with store bought rolls and two packets of soy sauce. Anything else is foreign to them. If you're one of these high-maintenance food whiners, stay home and eat your canned La Choy. You're clueless.

We returned to NPR for some good Chinese. It was not that good this time. We ordered the Bo bo appetizer platter, shrimp with pea pods, and the sizzling beef platter. The sauces for the shrimp and the beef were gelatinous, not smooth. When we reheated the leftovers, the sauce was even more gelatinous and gross. Now I would never tell a sous chef that he is using way too much thickening agent, serving a jiggly jello gravy sauce that forms peaks. People that have no idea what they are doing are usually offended by criticism. We don't want to tell cooks how to do their job correctly. We simply won't go back anymore for gravy flavored jell-o. Too gross!

I can't help but give New Peking 3 stars overall and while this review is specific to my quest for the best General Tso's in the greater metro area, the restaurant itself was fairly nice inside for a Chinese joint that's been around so long and prices are very affordable! Joe V. and I had it on recommendation that this place had some decent Tso's. Taking into account what we consider good Tso's the recommending Yelper also suggested that the Yen King Chicken was what we really wanted to order to suit our taste for a deeper spicier dish. My solution was to order both the Tso's and the Yen King and split them for good measure. To start, I ordered the Wonton soup and steamed rice with my lunch special, which came with an egg roll also. The soup was really really flavorful with beautifully green and vibrant snap peas mixed with mushroom slices and chicken in a delicate broth surrounding meat filled wontons that were near perfection. The soup was great! The General's was served with large chunks of good white meat, heavily battered and deep fried with a very sweet gingery sauce. Given that we both asked for our entrees as spicy hot as they could be made they threw some dried chiles into my order. But it still wasn't very spicy, even after adding the chile paste they brought out for us...which I appreciated and is always a welcome touch! Overall the Tso's was filling and the accompanying broccoli was also vibrant and cooked well but it's not what I was looking for. On the other hand, while the egg roll was on the small size similar to a spring roll I enjoyed it a lot. The filling was tasty and simple and it had a nice crisp fry on it. The Yen King Chicken was cooked in a dark red gooey sauce with a more savory less sweet profile from the Tso's but still a fairly ubiquitous sauce that missed the mark for Tso's top contender no matter what name it goes by. I liked it better than the actual General's dish but I've still gotta give highest marks to Szechuan Empire and Szechuan in Canton for #1 spots for General Tso's Chicken.

Found this little gem based on other yelp reviews and it did not disappoint. My wife and I missed the lunch prices by maybe five minutes so it was a tad on the pricey side, but it was worth every penny. I got a meal called Phoenix Chicken which was this fantastic mix between a General Tsaos style chicken (fried to perfection) and thai flavoring making it tangier with more spice. My wife got Almond Boneless, it was superb. Their food is obviously NOT microwaved, like so many other Chinese places, and their thai hybrid menu leaves me wanting to come back and try more.

Today was my second time to New Peking. The first was a few years ago and I remember being "Meh" about it that time as well. Today confirmed my Meh-ness about this place. The teacups are flipped upside down on saucers on the table when you arrive. My sisters was legitimately dirty. Not off to a great start. Joe B. ordered General Tso's and I ordered the Yen-King Chicken. Both of our dishes were made with the same type of chicken - the kind you expect to get with Sweet and Sour Chicken. It was large, chunky, deep fried with that crisp breading on the outside. The sauce was sweeter than I prefer on both dishes. I asked for it "as spicy as you can make it" and it just wasn't spicy at all. Definitely more sweet than hot. Always a huge letdown. They gave me the pepper paste on the side as well and that just wasn't enough either...I almost used the whole jar myself. The egg roll was just plain bad. Small, way too doughy, no substance in the middle. It literally tastes like something you would get from Gordon Food Service - wouldn't be surprised if that's exactly where they get it. No knock on GFS...it's just not high quality stuff. The hot and sour soup was okay. Not bad. Probably the highlight of the meal, but it was still just average at best. I feel like there are different regional variations of Chinese food out there. This just isn't the region that I care for. I'm definitely more of a spicy/szechuan-style...so I'm not saying this place isn't for everybody, but it's definitely not for me.

A long family tradition has been for us to eat out at a Chinese restaurant on Christmas. Tonight, we chose this establishment. Eh... At 8 pm there were about 6-7 tables occupied. The hostess was very nice, greeted us with a hello and promptly seated us. 2 STARS for service- curt, abrupt... I wanted hot (spicy) general Tao. Waitress kept insisting that medium would have enough heat so went with it. She was so flat in personality and other than to bring our food we didn't see her til the end. I wanted a refill or some water and didn't see her anywhere. 5 STARS hot sour soup... Perfect!! 2STARS crab Rangoon - heavily fried and loaded with cream cheese 3STARS shrimp in lobster sauce... Plenty of shrimp, but sooooooo very very salty 3 STARS general Tao so disappointed in spice level. If I had seen the waitress (she never checked in) I would have told her that her idea of spicy and mine are so very different. There wasn't any heat! therevwas1 chili pod...So it ruined the meal for me. The chunks are big and chewy. The breading isn't too heavy and when hot , it was crispy. I would try this place again just to see if service is consistently flat...

Do not let the exterior of this restaurant fool you. It is a thousand times better than you think. I have only eaten their almond chicken, rice, egg drop and crab rangoon, but yum! I cannot wait to try other items. Their egg drop is nothing like the neon yellow junk most places have. It is fresh, made with real ingredients and has veggies. The chicken seemed fresh to order and was all white meat. Their fried rice was super delicious, too, and had nice chunks of egg in it. Don't get me started on the rangoon. Best. Ever.

Be prepared to eat a lot of food! Dinner portions are huge. It's not great to take it home and eat later, but delicious when fresh. If we are in the area again we will be going back for lunch next time. Lunch prices served until 3pm.

I've been to New Peking a handful of times and the food has always been good, the service not so much. But I come back for the food. However, today, after just having dinner here with my husband and step son, I don't think I will return. The service was bad from start to finish. The only reason I'm not giving only 1 star is the food has been typically very good. Today I had the orange beef and the beef was chewy and the sauce not the same as usual. My husband had the generals chicken and it was very good. Stepson had Mongolian beef and he said the beef was chewy also. The service was just horrendous though. I couldn't believe how long every thing took. From getting our orders, to bringing our drinks, to bringing out our food! Then they NEVER checked on us. We all needed drink refills but nobody came. So we asked a waitress nearby if we could get refills. She looked annoyed and said ok. But kept setting a large table and we all just looked at each other like, "did she understand what we asked"? After about literally 3 or 4 mins, she finally walked away to tell our waitress we needed her. Wow! She brought our refills, but by that time we were done. She walked away and took another 10 mins to come check on us. She asked if I wanted my food wrapped and I said no, the beef was really chewy and hard to eat. She just said ok, and took the (almost full) plate of food away. No apology, no, "can I get you something else". She gave us the bill and left. Then, about 6 of the workers, including our waitress, sat down at a table next to us to eat themselves! She didn't offer to take our bill! Just sat down to eat! At this point, my husband had enough and walked up front to pay instead of waiting for her to take the check. The cashier apparently was eating too because she came over from the table so we could pay. She asked the usual, "how was everything"? My husband told her that it wasn't good. And she just smiled. Didn't even follow up with a response. This place needs to work on their customer service and professionalism! I will not be back.

Very authentic Chinese restaurant. Hot pepper shrimp was my favorite till I became allergic to shrimp. Lunch menu is priced right and I used have to take home my leftovers. I just love this place and have been coming here since the 1970s. My recommendations,,,hot pepper shrimp, hot pepper chicken, and sesame chicken. I don't like egg drop soup so I get the won ton..it's really good!

BEST CHINESE RESTAURANT IN DETROIT! They have great food and the staff is very helpful. They also offer Peking Dock and Crispy Duck. You need to order 24 hours in advance, as they need the time to properly prep the duck. It's a minor inconvenience, but that is how they can offer this dish and do it right. No shortcuts. Also the Dry Garlic Beef (I may have that dish name wrong) is AMAZING. And I also love the fried won tons with meat filling like they SHOULD have (not just fried won ton wrapper strip, served like potato chips as most Chinese restaurants do). Potstickers are also excellent.

Whenever I go, I ask for the Korean menu... this place serves Korean-Chinese (these dishes are not Korean food, its different then American-Chinese food)... So I ordered Kangpunki, Tangsooyuk and Champong... the battering on kangpunki was too think and the sauce was too watery... Tangsooyuk was okay too... we got it with beef... the champong was okay too... So, the foods were okay, not the best... Kangpunki - the breading was too much, the chicken strips were to thick... maybe it's a personal taste... I prefer smaller strips of the chicken and lighter on the breading. The sauce was good. Tansooyuk - we got it with the beef and it was good... the meat was tender and easy to eat, the sauce was good. Champong - the soup was okay, I did not like the noodles... it looked like they were using Chinese noodles and not the champong noodles they should have been using. Overall, they offer good Korean-Chinese food and I would visit again, granted not that often since it's 40 minutes from home...

My family has been coming here for years - it is simply one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area. Be sure to try the Seafood Delight (S01) and thr Beef sliced stir fry with green onions (M03) if you want something very authentic and uniquely well made. If you're into Chinese American food, they've got dishes that will blow PF Chang's out of the water.

This place was pretty busy at 5:30 p.m. on a Sunday...that's always a good sign. The service was above average, very attentive, polite, and fast. The egg drop soup was really fresh but a little different that the usual egg drop. (Not a bad thing, just not as egg-y, and it had a little tofu in it.) The egg roll was very yummy, best I've had in, maybe ever. We ordered the Mongolian Beef, which was very tasty, and the General Tso, which was good, but different from the usual. I was expecting the really red-colored looking stuff, and this LOOKED more sweet & sour style. (Next time I go back, I will inquire on a dish I saw on someone else's table- that looked more like the general tso we know and love.) All in all, the food is fresh, and clearly they have a high turn-over rate so you know nothing is going to have been sitting around for days. We will definitely go back.

My favorite Szechuan Chinese on the planet, been eating there since they opened I think sometime in the 70"s when dad owned and ran. Now it's the kids and just the greatest still I have ever found.

Stopped for a quick lunch and had the Kung Pao Chicken and my favorite appetizer of all time, PotStickers. Lunch came out fast, hot and was great. I uploaded some pics too! This is my favorite Chinese Restaurant, and they never fail!!! TWO BIG THUMBS UP!!!!!!

I have been coming to New Peking since I was a kid... In fact, it's where I learned to use chop sticks, taught to me by the owner, which would have been back around 1985... Did I mention I've been coming here for a while? :) Always great food! Red Pepper Shrimp has always been my favorite dish... Well done throughout the years, New Peking!

I can dimly remember dining here as a kid. Almond chicken or fried shrimp with plum sauce and hot mustard to dip were always hits with me. They also used to bring me a great pink Shirley Temple drink made out of Seven Up that made me feel like a real grown up. Good times. Maybe that's why I am a girly martini lush now though? Hmmmm. I stopped in with my parents for lunch the other day after running them on an errand nearby. I had seen positive reviews on Yelp and when I mentioned it to them they also had fond memories. We decided it was worth a whirl. We all had specials, none were over 6.75 (for my shrimp pick). My mom went with Mongolian beef, my dad with his standby sesame chicken and I decided to try the red pepper shrimp. We asked for all entrees to be made hot and spicy. My dad and I upgraded to wonton soup for a dollar but my mom kept the freebie egg drop. We also threw in an order of potstickers for fun. The jasmine tea here was quite nice and piping hot which is a must. The food was fresh and tasty but I wish all three dishes had been even spicier for my palette, luckily they had some hot chili oil which helps. The eggrolls were good flavor and nicely crunchy. My parents quite enjoyed the fried rice but I substituted white for myself. I think the wonton was better than the egg drop by far but that is how I usually feel so take it with a grain of salt. Portions were big, prices reasonable, our Ameri-Chinese standard picks were tasty versions. I am willing to try dinner next and venture into some different dishes but I will make a big point of asking for EXTRA hot spice level.

WOW, the quality of food here nearly brought tears to my eyes, it really was that good. To say it's the best Chinese restaurant I've been to would be an understatement. There's an interesting history behind the ownership, which is probably why the food is so good. The owner is Chinese, born in Korea, where he first opened up a very successful Chinese restaurant in a busy area of Seoul. My grandfather used to frequent this restaurant in Korea, and lo and behold, decades later when he had moved to Michigan, he went to New Peking and ran into the same owner, so it became his Michigan favorite. We shared the ja jang myun (black bean noodles), and chang pong (spicy seafood noodle soup), the Koreanized Chinese dishes which were excellent. The kampoongi (chicken wings with sweet garlic sauce) was AMAZING, the best I've ever had. The wings were perfectly crispy and tender, and the sauce was sweet and savory. It was so good after we polished off the wings, I poured it on my rice and ate it. My husband always gets the chicken chow mein, and the portion was large enough to satisfy even his gargantuan appetite. They brought out the kimchi which made my Korean palette happy. After hitting dozens of mediocre Chinese restaurants in Chicago, I've planted my heart in Garden City, Michigan.

BEST BY FAR Chinese restaurant in Metro-Detroit. No I am sure I have not been to all of them but probably 20 or so all over the area. I live in Plymouth but if I want Chinese food I drive all the way to Garden City and never anywhere else. The quality of the meats and flavor are amazing, the waitstaff is quick but not usually over friendly but still very good. WORTH THE DRIVE ALWAYS! We have no Chinese restaurants in the Plymouth area worth eating at, maybe New Peking will open one here??? They would be a HUGE hit in Downtown Plymouth.

Went in with 5 friends for lunch for the first time today. Overall, it was your basic Chinese restaurant inside, though I was impressed with how many actual Chinese customers were there. I ordered the #6 lunch - Almond chicken (fried), fried rice, an egg roll, and egg drop soup. Out of the five of us, only 3 got water (I was one of the unlucky ones). Our waitress was never around long enough to ask for some either. I got my egg drop soup which tasted pretty good. I was surprised to find that they put tofu in it as well. The only thing that threw me off was the single pea that was floating around in it. Where did that come from??? The fried rice was good, nothing special either way. The almond chicken was pretty bad. Too much/thick breading and the chicken was not tender. The brown gravy tasted odd, and was slightly sweet (???), and the lettuce was big chunks of lettuce from the core area. Yuck. Then I get the odd surprise towards the end of what appeared to be a cocoa puff, and yes, I actually ate it. Maybe an explanation for the sweetness? Also, the food was luke-warm at best. One of my friends didn't finish his lunch and said it was so bad his tongue wen numb. Everyone else said there's was OK. Even though the prices were pretty good, the service and food left a lot to be desired. I won't be going back here any time soon.

In town for work, and was by myself so I thought I'd check out the local Chinese offerings. Egg rolls were decent, nothing out of this world, but a good start. The Mongolian beef had a very nice flavor, though the sauce did veer into quasi-gravy territory as far as the consistency. Dinner size was a fair portion, not over the top, but they didn't skimp on anything either. Pot stickers... I just don't know what's up with this. I've eaten at probably a hundred different Chinese places throughout the US, and this was a first. Easily the largest pot stickers I've ever had (I believe they give you 4), and certainly the only deep fried ones I've ever eaten. Flavor was good, but the whole frying thing just turned them into big, pot sticker flavored egg rolls.. Not a fan, but at least they offered something unique. If you like fried items, these will be right up your alley. Service was great, and the price is very reasonable.

NEVER AGAIN! Anyone who likes this place, has never had GOOD oriental food! The sweet & sour sauce tastes like sugar sweetened tomato sauce! They don't offer dinner rolls!!! WTF??? Egg rolls don't come with combination plates WTF?? And the front desk staff was rude, and condescending!! NEVER AGAIN! Back to Yun's I go!! Cheers!

I mentioned this in another review of Garden City restaraunts... but what is the deal with you people LIKING frozen/chopped up vegetables? It's like you people never grow out of cafeteria food. This place had those exact style vegetables--nothing fresh, nothing even WHOLE. It was your standard gradeschool cafeteria chopped carrots, green beans, and peas. I'm going to pay ~$10 for a bag of Meijer-brand vegetables? No. General Tso's chicken tasted nothing like any other dish. My fiance got some sort of shrimp dish which had the identical sauce--no flavor, no spiciness... the texture was even stomach-turning, like someone put in too much cornstarch at the wrong temperature. Sake cocktails were okay, though light on the sake (this place seems to be all about cutting corners). It's unbelievable how someone can actually like this restaurant, let alone how many people have commented saying they do. Do NOT trust the other reviewers--that's what I did!

Best Chinese in the area. I'm very picky when it comes to my Chinese food. Seems like its either awful or good, no middle ground. New Peking is a very good standard Chinese Restaurant. It's a little bit out of the way for us, but we make a point to order from them. The fried rice alone is a great meal. The General Tso Chicken, the Sesame Chicken and the Almond Chicken are all good choices. My wife prefers the beef dishes or the noodle entrees. You won't go wrong here. The atmosphere is pleasant and the place is clean.

My Favorite place for American'ised Chinese food! First Impression: From the street this place doesn't really look like much. The outside of the building could use a face lift and that is what had put me off from trying it for years. For whatever reason I am always fearful that I am going to die of food poisoning because the buildings landscape looks older. Once I walked into the door and the wonderful smells filled my nose all that fear went out the window. The inside itself is clean, warm, and inviting. Food: For my lunch I ordered Wonton soup and Garlic Beef in a House Hoisin sauce. The soup was as good as any Wonton I have tried and my only complaint is the portion size was too small. That isn't a knock, it was really good and I love Wonton soup! My beef came out next with a delicious and generous portion of white rice. Let me stop for a moment and mention the rice. What really makes or brakes a meal for me is the rice. You can have the best tasting food in the world, but if your rice sucks your taking something away. The meal portion was huge and I had enough food to take home with me. The only thing that about the beef dish is that thought it was a bit on the salty side. Nothing too overpowering, but the flavor was so good I didn't think it needed to be so salty. Service: What really impressed me was the level of service. The waitstaff is very experienced, friendly, and attentive. I really like it when you ask for a take out box and instead of just flopping the boxes down on the table and running away, they actually box up your meal for you. A note too servers world round, this is how you earn your above average tips! Final thoughts: I am a loyal fan of New Peking Chinese restaurant in Garden City and have been for years. I will not switch sides and make Szechuan my main place when I get a craving for Ameri-Chinese food. However, if I am in the area I will defiantly come back. Give this place a try!

I've been going to this restaurant for a very long time now. Consistent food quality, great portions, usually good service, usually dine-in versus carry-out from here. And without a doubt, hands down, my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area!! We usually get the "Peking Dinner for two" from here, which will run you just over $30 bucks, and worth every penny of it too! It has all of my favorites, and "Must Have's" from here... #1 being the Peking Beef! It's a "Must Try", and I highly, highly recommend it! I've never seen it offered in any Chinese restaurant before? Sooo Delicious!! #2 Crab-meat Ragoons - very, very good! #3 Sizzling Rice Soup - Always very, very good! Something different from the usual Egg Drop, Won-Ton, Hot Sour soup varieties that most places offer. What makes the rice sizzle though as it's being put in your soup, right in front of you?? Not sure, don't care...tastes great!! The Peking dinner also comes with another entree, Snow Whit Chicken I believe, but not sure? As we usually will ask for another entree, depending on what we (she), have a taste for at the time. The Snow White Chicken is usually a very good dish, sometimes on the bland side though. The server has never denied us changing up the entree either. We have Never ever changed up the Peking Beef though!! :) Give it try. I highly doubt you'll be disappointed in this restaurant? On another note, the Asian clientele eating in this restaurant, usually out number the other people eating here. That right there should tell you something about the restaurants quality of food being served here!

I don't get it. After thinking a popular Yelp reviewed Indian place really sucked on my first visit and having come full circle to it being one of my favorites now I am sensitive to the fact that sometimes you have to try again to get a good data sample. But the reviews just don't add up for me here even after three visits. I tried the Jja Jang Myun with much anticipation as I am a sucker for things not found on most Chinese menus. Upon getting it home the inky black sauce full of onions looked delicious and savory. But after merging the sauce with the noodles I was like "huh"? It really didn't taste like much of anything. A hint of onions maybe a hint of fermented black bean sauce but it was kind of a watery bland mess. I fortified it with some dried fermented black beans I had lying around and some chili garlic paste to make it taste like something. I haz a sad :( Szechuan chicken which I ordered VERY SPICY would have ranked as mildly spicy anywhere else in the universe. Sensors indicate no tongue lust here captain. The dish was also just basically chicken with a freakin' GIANT pile of julienned celery. WTF? That makes it Szechuan how exactly? Several other dishes were the same level of meh. I will say the ingredients (if not the flavors) and service were maybe a notch above your average Chinese place but nothing to merit wall to wall 5 star reviews that I could see on my 3 visits. I tried but no mas for me.

Meh...I'm not impressed. I tried New Peking for the first time tonight based on some rave reviews. I don't get it. I was in the mood for some General's chicken and spicy orange beef. I ordered both, plus an order of chicken fried rice. First of all, I think New Peking is a little on the pricey side compared to other Chinese places in the area. I ordered those three items and my total was nearly $33. The chicken fried rice has actual hunks of chicken in it, which was amazing, but it's not the best tasting fried rice I've ever had. It seems like it's missing something. The General's chicken is very bland. It's listed as a spicy dish, but there's nothing spicy about it. I didn't even touch it because the breading was mushy and the sauce didn't have much flavor. The orange beef is just okay for my taste, too. I was expecting crispier beef, but this is just slices of beef (doesn't seem breaded like the menu advertises) and, again, the sauce is kind of bland. The spice kicks in almost as an aftertaste, but the sauce itself isn't very orangey. I'm not sure what's on the menu that makes people swoon over this place, but it sure isn't the stuff I ordered. I've had better at other places. I guess I'm continuing my search for amazing Chinese in the Detroit area.

My Mother and her friends, commonly referred to as "The Joy Luck Club" all come here every year for Chinese New Year. They are all Asian, and they swear that this is THE best Chinese restaurant in the area. My boyfriend and I stopped by here on New Years Eve to bring the New Year in right, and I couldn't have been more pleased. We ordered the Sesame Chicken and the Hunan Beef. Both dishes were excellent. So, next time you're in the mood for Chinese, go to where the "Joy Luck Club" goes for "best quality, more better" Chinese food!

Whomp.

Too gross!

Enjoy!

BEST CHINESE FOOD I HAVE EVER HAD. This place is the benchmark for all other Chinese. Enough said! **Almond Chicken is different - but the best. It is quality chicken with special spices, breaded, on a bed of lettuce.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
